April Project Workshop - Personalized Pendant

I'll admit that I don't know much about current fashion trends. However, I love bling, and the idea of creating wearable art does appeal to my inner craft monster (instead of cookies, this monster wants sparkles :) I had a blast creating these quick, crafty pendants, and I wanted to share this experience with you. I've put together a kit that allows you to make a personalized pendant in 5 minutes (or less). You can create a pendant that reflects your style or that makes a fun gift.

The kit comes with everything you need to make one necklace for $11 and includes the following:

Additional products needed to complete this project:
  • Liquid Glass
  • Micro-Tip Scissors

After you purchase your kit, I will email you a quick and simple form with your pendant options.

You can come to the class on Wednesday, April 23rd at 6:30pm or have it shipped directly to your home. You are also welcome to pick up your kit if you are local.

Kits ordered by 4/6 will be mailed by 4/25.

The Art of Scraplifting

It's not stealing - it's scraplifting! And it comes in many different flavors - from using all the same elements, to just picking out a few, or even to reinterpreting the design. I tend to take elements I like from many different places and put them together using traditional designs (classically eclectic, I like to call it), though sometimes I'll just reinterpret one project. My inspiration for this particular scraplift came from Close To My Heart's Spring/Summer Idea Book (page 94):

I love the Hello card at the top - the embossed white space, the bold colors, and the cute strips sticking out from the frame. I knew I wanted to make something similar, and this is what I came up with:

Vertical instead of horizontal, summery colors and a cute round frame. Inspiration comes in many forms, as does the way we choose to use it. Go forth and scraplift! (Just make sure to give credit where it's due - we all love a good shout out).

Supplies Used (All CTMH unless noted):
B&T Paper - Footloose (retired) and Chantilly (retired)
Cardstock - Pear, Lagoon and White Daisy
Ink - Lagoon and Pear
Stamp Sets - Frame Flair and Thank You (retired)
Embellishments - Blue and Green Sparkles (retired) and Paradise Baker's Twine (retired)

April Cricut Class - Lollydoodle Mini-Album

With only my wits, some glue and (lots of) help from the Artbooking cartridge, I created this adorable mini-album for you! Come make 14-pages of Lollydoodle fun at my April class:

The album is 8" x 6", comes pre-cut and ready for assembly with step-by-step instructions, Lollydoodle Complements, Lollydoodle Assortment, Aqua Dots and Topiary Mini-Chevron Ribbon for binding. You'll even get image sizes in case you'd like to use Artbooking to make another album!

The mini-album kit is $28 if you are attending the class or picking up your kit. For mail-order kits, $5 is added for shipping.

You will have some leftover paper and embellishments, and something I did with mine was to decorate one of our Kraft 3-Ring Albums so I have a secure place to store my mini-album.

This kit is sold out!

March Stamp of the Month

I adore March's Stamp of the Month, Happy Place, because I love those beautiful nesting dolls! The sayings are also perfect for both scrapbook pages and cards. Plus, these dolls are so much fun to color - simply use one of our pigment inks as a base, and you have a wonderful image to color!

I made this card using the Stamp of the Month, some Lollydoodle paper, our alcohol markers, and Flamingo Dots (what a pop of color!) Plus, I sanded the edges with a sanding block. As always, the Stamp of the Month is $5 with a $50 purchase.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sweet Card - Color My Heart Color Dare #85

I am so excited to announce that I was invited to be a guest designer for the Color My Heart Color Dare this week! Here are their challenge colors:

And here is my card:

I knew I wanted to use the Artbooking cartridge to make an overlay for the background. Originally I was going to create a layout, but when I saw the card sketch at Retro Sketches, I knew I had to make this card:

I love using tone-on-tone backgrounds, which really makes that pop of color at the bottom stand out, especially with this design. My favorite part? That I used "sweet" as my sentiment - when mentioned, my card will have to be referred to as the "sweet" card. Sneaky and a bit egocentric? Yes. But effective. :)

Supplies Used (All CTMH, except where noted):
Cardstock: Colonial White, Barn Red, Hollyhock and Olive
B&T Paper: Felicity (retired)
Ink: Cocoa
Stamp Sets: Simple Stitches (retired)
Embellishments: Bling Button (retired) and Embroidery Floss
Tools: Artbooking Cartridge and Border Punch (Stampin' Up)

Relax With Distressing

I love using distressing techniques because there is no better way of hiding imperfections (or of turning a mistake into an intentional design element).
Plus they're fun.

This layout is about this awesome party my parents have every year called Ribfest (I'm sure you can guess what the main course is). To add some pizzazz to the layout, I used 5 different distressing techniques (because why not?)

One, the edges are rough. Our cardstock has a white core, so when you use a nifty tool like an edge distresser, you can get a really cool frayed look. Two and three, all edges are inked and the cardstock has smudges. I used a sponge dauber to swipe ink along the edges and to add some smears on the paper for a more vintage look (and what a great way to hide any ink stains from stamping or excess glue!)

Four, sanding - with the white core, a sanding block can really add some texture to cardstock. And five, I sewed along the edges. This can be done with a sewing machine, or a piercing guide and some needle and thread. I love how this pulls all the pieces together.

Want to get this shabby chic look? Try using some or all of these tools:

Get Close To My Heart to Print Your Photos!

Close To My Heart has an awesome online scrapbooking program called Studio J - it's a great way to get albums done quickly and beautifully. But what many people don't know is that you can also use Studio J to print photos - especially those odd-sized photos that you can't get at local stores!

Want to learn more? Sign up for my FREE Studio J photo printing workshop on Sunday, March 16th at 2pm. Simply email me or leave a comment. But make sure you have a laptop or tablet you can use!

Want to hear something even better? During March, all Studio J layouts are just $5! This is the perfect month to give Studio J a try!

Here are a few pages I created for an album I gave as a gift to my grandmother - what's nice is you can have CTMH print out as many copies of your layouts as you want, so I gave extras to other family members!

If you haven't given Studio J a try, I encourage you to stop by and create a free account.  You can create layouts and play as much as you'd like.  You don't pay for anything until you check out!  At $5.00 for a two-page layout, this is an incredible deal!

Mother of a Challenge

I'm taking on two challenges this week, and getting an early start on Mother's Day - I feel so accomplished. :)

My two challenges? Color My Heart's Color Dare #83 and Heart 2 Heart Challenge's Triple Play:

I loved the color choices for this week - a lovely combination of cool and warm from the amazing Skylark collection.

And to keep with the theme of three, I did something I've wanted to do for awhile - use Washi tape as my "paper" instead of just an embellishment. The three long strips in the background are all Washi tape. My other triple plays include the use of gray (the Washi tape, the silhouette and the baker's twine) and the three different colors of gems (though there's 5 of them, there are only 3 colors). So I tripled the triple play.

My favorite part about this card is the stamp set - Mother's Day. It is beyond a doubt my favorite Mother's Day stamp set I've ever owned, and is fast becoming one of my favorite stamp sets in general because of the awesomely retro silhouettes.

I also used the Skylark paper pack, Slate and Lagoon Washi Tape, Gray Baker's Twine, and blue and green sparkles (retired).
