ShinHan Touch Alcohol Markers - Fun Techniques Pt. 3

This week's alcohol marker technique is similar to my first post on two-color blending; however, when coloring with reds, there's actually a key difference. Normally you would start with the lightest color then add darker layers. But when you color with reds, it's best to start with the darkest color and work your way inward with the lighter colors.

The adorable bird from the Fabulous You stamp set is a perfect example - I started with Carmine on the outer edges, then blended with the lighter Tender Pink towards the center. The flowers were done the typical way - coloring everything in the light Barely Beige, then highlighting with the slightly darker Light Orange

I used the retired Pear & Partridge page pack to make this card, but you can recreate it by using the Pear & Partridge Picture My Life cards (even easier - no cutting! :) Kraft cardstock helped ground everything, and Gold Sequins added some shine.

Sharing the Awesomeness of Team Meetings

Team meetings are one of my favorite things about being a Close To My Heart consultant. I get to go to meetings that my upline hosts (her team is the Rose Blossoms), and I hold my own meetings for my team (the Sweet Tweets). I recently went to a Rose Blossom team meeting, and it was such an amazing experience. This group is truly phenomenal.

Our meeting was at the end of January, so we exchanged Valentines and gifts. One of my favorite gifts was actually for my husband - the wonderful Kristina saw my post on Fred and got him a beer tasting kit. Needless to say, Fred was happy I went to the meeting as well. :)

Our Rose Blossom meetings are in Minnesota, so my fellow consultant, Margot, and I drive up together. I have such a blast talking with her - we always have so much to share.

Getting to hang out with my fellow teammates is the best part about going to team meetings. And a close second is all the crafting. :) We always have a creative project followed by plenty of time to crop. This time Brenda gave us an awesome year-long project - a My Crush book dedicated to our team. I filled my first pages with Valentines from my fellow Rose Blossoms, a beautiful award given to me by Brenda, and plenty of journaling.

The most amazing part of the meeting for me was when Brenda gave me these bracelets as a gift for all my hard work building my business. They're special on their own, but it's the charms that she put on them that make them truly beautiful. My former upline, Regina, used StarStamps as her name and put stars on everything she did. Regina had to step down due to health issues, but she has remained a friend and a constant source of inspiration and encouragement for me. So to see her symbol on these bracelets means so much to me.

I'll be having my own Illinois team meeting in March, and I would love to have you be a part of that. Getting the awesome discount is only a part of it - hanging out with fellow crafters, getting time to create, learning new techniques, and finding out about everything a month before everyone else are just some of the perks. On top of that, during March, everyone who signs up gets a FREE shoulder tote with their New Consultant Kit. Plus, if you sell $300 within your first 40 days, you get the rolling tote FREE as well!

ShinHan Touch Alcohol Markers - Fun Techniques Pt. 2

Last week, I had a fun example of two-color blending using our ShinHan Touch markers. This week, it's all about the Colorless Blender Marker.

I love creating this look of gradual color softening, and it's really easy to do with a Colorless Blender Marker. Simply start with two-color blending (I used Light Orange followed by Tender Pink), and then color the edges with the blender. The name isn't exactly correct - the marker doesn't blend, but rather acts as an eraser. So it will lighten any color and create a soft look.

I love creating stamped and colored squares because it makes it so easy to just pop them onto a card. This one took 5 minutes - I used Pattern 22 from Make It From Your Heart Vol. 2, Your Own Kind of Wonderful stamp setBrushed paper, a mini clothespin and a retired wood button. Easy peasy.

Stay tuned for more marker art! Plus I'll be posting info on the marker class next week!!

February Stamp of the Month - Flower Card

I love the artwork that Close To My Heart makes for the Stamps of the Month - I was so inspired by the flower card on page 18 of the Annual Inspirations that I knew I had to make one of my own!

I sized the card down to the regular A2 size, and I changed the colors from purple to bright and warm Sorbet, Canary and Sweet Leaf. Putting this card together was simple - I stamped the stem and leaves in the center of the card, and then stamped and cut or used a circle punch on the flowers. Those adorable dragonflies come from Art Philosophy, and I completed the look with Epoxy Bubbles and retired Sorbet ribbon.

February's Stamp of the Month can be yours for $5 with a $50 purchase. Get yours today on my website!

ShinHan Touch Alcohol Markers - Fun Techniques Pt. 1

I've been wanting to have a class on our ShinHan Touch alcohol markers for awhile now, and I finally feel like I've spent enough time using them to teach a class. I'll be announcing the date and details soon, but in the meantime, I'm going to showcase some of the techniques I'll be teaching.

I used the adorable Tweet Me stamp set to showcase two-color blending. This is a very simple way to color, but it really does allow you to get the most out of a few markers. I used the Cerulean Blue and Turquoise Blue markers with our Archival Black Ink. You can do this technique with any two markers that are similar in color.

What I love about our markers is that they coordinate perfectly with all our papers. I used the retired Skylark paper and assortment, along with Silver Washi Tape and Clear Sparkles. These two markers alone go with 25 of our retired paper packs (back to 2011) and 8 of our current paper packs (thank you Evernote!).

Stay tuned for more marker art and an update on the marker class!

February Stamp of the Month - Layout in Bloom

I admit it, I love fussy cutting and creating intricate scenes from stamped images. I know it takes a lot of time, but what can I say - I love details. Fortunately for those of you who come to my workshops, I do not make you do this. However, when it comes to my blog, all is fair game. :)

My best friend's little girl - what a lovely way to show how much
she's grown these past years. And what a cutie!

When I saw February's Stamp of the Month - A Happy Hello - I knew I was going to make a garden. There were just too many fun flower images, and I couldn't pass this up. I started by stamping my stem and leaf bases with Topiary ink. And then, I went crazy with flowers.

I'll admit, many of these shapes were punched with a circle punch. But I still got my fussy cutting fix with some of the flowers (especially those that you can see are bent inward to create dimension). I finished my garden with a mix of Flamingo Dots and Aqua Dots.

If if you're not a fussy cutting diva, you can still create fun garden scenes with this stamp set - the flowers and circles can be stamped inside each other, and don't forget those circle punches!

February's Stamp of the Month can be yours for $5 with a $50 purchase. Get yours today on my website!

My Crush Books - Fun Projects On-The-Go

The holidays may be over, but preserving those holiday memories has just begun for me! I love keeping mementos from the holidays - cards, tags, tickets and other ephemera I seem to collect as the month goes on. When I make my Christmas layout, I tend to just use photos. But this year, I wanted to showcase my mementos, too, so I decided to use our Holiday Happenings My Crush album.

This page is all about our anniversary - I made sure to keep the card I made for Fred and to tell our story - my small handwriting fills the edges of the left page and frames the photos of the right. The My Crush collection comes with cute little cards for decoration, as well as stickers for personalizing each page.

I love that the pages are pre-decorated - it makes it so easy to just add a journaling card and a few stickers.

My other favorite feature of this My Crush book are the fun page protectors. They come in a variety of sizes and you can easily slip photos into them and you're done! I love this one because I can showcase my collection of Barbie ornaments - 12 photos on each side!

Now why did I call this a fun "on-the-go" project? Because it requires so few supplies (your book and accessories, a pen and some adhesive) you can take it with you anywhere! I even have a fun little board I made to hold all my accessories:

I got this small poster board piece at Staples and used our Flip Flaps to hold all my accessories. I wish I could claim this as my own idea, but I got this from Margot, my favorite organizational ninja. :)

So if you see me in a waiting room or eating by myself somewhere, odds are I'll have my My Crush bag with me and I'll be scrapping away!
