Get Inspired by Taste of Summer

If you have the Taste of Summer paper pack and stamp set, or are thinking about getting them, you may be wondering what you can do with the collection. It's beautiful paper and fun images, and there's so many great ideas out there if you know where to look!

So I thought I'd share my favorite places to find some inspiration:

1. An oldie but goodie - type "Close To My Heart Taste of Summer" in Google images and you'll have plenty of inspiration to get you going! What's great is it will include images from all over, including blogs, Pinterest, Instagram, etc.

2. In Facebook, search for #CTMHTOS and you can scroll through all the artwork that everyone has been posting.

3. And finally, my favorite - Close To My Heart's blog! I love everything they've created, but my favorite is this adorable mini-album:

Pigment Ink Finger Painting - Friendly Pets Card

The pigment ink finger painting technique looks really cool and is a lot of fun to do (it is finger painting after all. :) I've been using it on all my projects lately, and I thought I'd share one of my favorites.

Inspiration: Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine (pg. 38 of the Spring 2014 issue). This card layout is so simple, but it's perfect for showcasing a stamped image like this adorable cat from the Friendly Pets stamp set.

Technique: Pigment ink finger painting on the cute little cat. My favorite guide on how to do this comes from Karen Pedersen's blog

Fun Fact: I used 5 different embellishments on this one card. Some are current (Neutral Metallic Baker's Twine and Bubbly Enamel Shapes) and some are retired (Mocha Opaques, Lagoon Zipper Lace and Rosette Ribbon), but all are awesome together.

Give this technique a try - I guarantee you'll have a blast (and get inky fingers in the process - bonus!)

May Stamp of the Month - Just Sayin' Cardabilities Inspired Card

I love the playful shapes from the May Stamp of the Month, and I wanted a way to have some fun with them. This sketch from Cardabilities got my mind whirling with ideas, so I ran with it...

Inspiration: Cardabilities sketch and the retired Laughing Lola collection (for whatever reason, I really wanted to work with those colors)

Technique: I created two scalloped borders by stamping the circles in a row, and then cutting them in half. I also stamped the squares and cut them in half to create a small border under the sentiment. The solid black shape also creates a nice backdrop for the sentiment.

Fun Fact: Laughing Lola Gold looks suspiciously like Flaxen, which was introduced shortly after Laughing Lola retired. Coincidence?

As always, the Stamp of the Month can be yours for $5 with a $50 purchase. Get yours today on my websiteBut remember, it's only available until May 31st!

Taste of Summer Mini Cards and Holder

The Taste of Summer stamp set has such cute little fruit images that were simply begging me to use them on mini cards, so how could I refuse? :)

Inspiration: Wishes how-to book (pg. 19) and Artiste cartridge (pg.52)

Technique: I used the same design for all three cards, but mixed it up with different papers from the Taste of Summer collection. To keep them connected, I made sure to stick with four colors (orange, yellow, green and purple) and use the same embellishments (Silver Sequins and Thistle Twine). I also sanded the edges of the cards and box - another fun way to bring everything together.

Fun Fact: I'll admit, I drooled a little while making these. I love fruit. :)

The Taste of Summer paper pack and stamp set are available through the end of May. Get yours today on my website!

A Personal Challege

Like every other crafter out there, I have a Pinterest board filled with photos and projects that inspire me.

Along with that, I've started to fill an actual bulletin board with inspiring clips. I like having them right in front of me, challenging me to try something new.

And then there's that third space - the back of my mind. There's always something I'm just aching to try, but for whatever reason (fear, time, uncertainty), I can't get myself to do it.

I've wanted to make this mixed media project that Close To My Heart featured on their blog last year:

I want to make my own - show a part of myself on canvas using my favorite medium.

I'm hoping that by putting it out there, I take up the challenge and let myself try something new.

And what about you? What keeps pressing at the back of your mind to try? What new challenge do you want to take on?

Taste of Summer Swing Card - Orange You Sweet!

The Artfully Sent cartridge has a lot of intricate cards, but there are a few simple ones that can be used with beautifully detailed papers and stamp sets. I chose a simple swing card so I could go crazy with the fruity Taste of Summer images.

Inspiration: simple Artfully Sent card on page 10

Technique: Adding lots of fun details to sweeten up the card, including fussy cutting orange and lemon stamped images, adding hints of sparkle with White Shimmer Trim, and making the orange and yellow pop with touches of green flower paper.

Fun Fact: I love fussy cutting. Don't glare at me. :)

The Taste of Summer paper pack and stamp set are available through the end of May. Get yours today on my website!
