Scraplifting Tip - Pick Your Own Theme

Scraplifting is a great way to learn how to design pages and to find out what your style is. It's also helpful for getting out of a creative block, or shaking up your current designs.

My philosophy on scraplifting is that to get the most out of it, you should at least change a few things so you can turn it into your own art. There are many different ways to do this, but my favorite is to alter the theme.

This gorgeous layout comes from the first page of Close To My Heart's new Seasonal Expressions 1 mini catalog. I love how the theme of the layout is tied together with all the hearts - I knew I wanted to scraplift the idea of having one shape in different forms (individual shapes, border and background).

For my scraplifted layout, I kept the design the same, but I changed the theme - instead of hearts, I went with moons and stars because they matched my "Midnight in Paris" photo much better. I also changed the colors to give it a nighttime feel.

I also kept the watercolor accents - the brush stroke under the star border, the splatter in the upper corner and the watercolored star.

Try finding a layout or card design you really like, and change the theme to fit your photos or occasion. I'd love to see what you come up with!
