Oh Deer! Christmas Card - Softening Patterned Paper

Creating soft, snowy backgrounds on Christmas cards is easy when you use vellum!

Inspiration: The amazing Clear & Sheer class from Online Card Classes. There are so many awesome ways to use vellum and acetate!

Technique: To create the soft background, I covered my Oh Deer! patterned paper with some vellum from the Uptown Fundamentals. It helps to mute the background so the Oh Deer! Complements really stand out.

I also heat embossed Perfectly Pine images onto the vellum, being careful not to leave the heat too long on the paper and heating both the front and back to prevent warping.

Fun Tip: Use the embellishments to hide your adhesives. Simply glue wherever your embellishments will cover the vellum so you don't have to worry about the adhesive showing!

Simple and Elegant Christmas Cards

How many Christmas cards do you make each year? I'm getting closer and closer to 100, so I like to keep them simple. I also want them to stand out and shine. So to make that happen, I went to my Cricut.

Die-Cuts: All the pine needles, pine cones, stems and berries come from the Flower Market cartridge. Here is the Design Space file for you to use.

Colors: I let the lovely colors of the Oh Deer! paper pack inspire me. The simple background papers are from the paper pack, while the Fern, Ruby, Cocoa and Desert Sand cardstock go with the soft colors.

Texture: I added in White Glitter Paper and Burlap Ribbon for texture.

Easy, simple and elegant - I can't wait to send these out!

Rose Blossom Blog Hop - Happy, Happy Christmas Non-Christmas Layout

Welcome to the Rose Blossom Blog Hop! Come follow Close To My Heart consultants from the Rose Blossom team as we share our creations made using the Happy, Happy Christmas special!

If you came here from Kim's incredible blog, you are on the right path. If you get lost along the way, come back here and go to the bottom of the page for the blog hop list.

Inspiration: Jen Schow's 6 x 6 Paper Pad Love video series.  This is perfect for the My Crush pages because they're just over 8" x 6", so you have plenty to work with!

Technique: Ink smooshing - I added a few drops of Canary re-inker on a plastic bag, spritzed some water on top, and then smooshed it onto my page. Easy and cool. :)

Happy, Happy Non-Christmas: My first thought whenever I look through a new themed paper pack is - "how many of these pages can be used for other things?" The answer for Happy, Happy Christmas is - a lot!

The strips of paper are from the My Crush Happy, Happy Christmas pages and the Oh Deer! paper pack. All the words (and that adorable brownstone) are cut out from the Picture My Life cards. I was even able to use some of the City Sidewalk Complements - I just covered parts of the stickers that didn't go with the theme and went with the all-purpose star die-cuts.

You can get the Happy, Happy Christmas bundle on my website

Now it's time for you to keep moving on the hop!  Head on over to Brenda's gorgeous blog and see her beautiful artwork!

Oh Deer! Layout - Scraps and Altering Die-Cuts

I don't know about you, but I always have a lot of scraps that I'm not sure what to do with, and die-cuts that don't always match what I'm trying to do. Fortunately, there are some great tips you can try to get the most out of your scraps and die-cuts!

Scrap Tip: You can hide your scraps behind photos! All the paper you see in this layout are partial pieces (or even larger pieces with parts cut out from random areas). I just tucked everything behind the large photo and rearranged the pieces so they look much larger than they actually are. And those smaller pieces make great banners!

Die-Cut Tip: If you have die-cut shapes that you like, but the color or sentiment doesn't match, don't worry! You can alter them. I colored the gray chipboard banner at the top with some white acrylic paint followed by dabbing on ink. The stars are texture paste mixed with re-inker, and the bow was dipped in Versa Mark and covered with gold embossing powder.

I learned these great tips from the amazing Jen Schow - her 6x6 Paper Pad Love video series and Die-Cut Diversity class had so much awesome info!

Rose Blossom Blog Hop - New Year's Cheer Card

Welcome to the Rose Blossom Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! Come follow Close To My Heart consultants from the Rose Blossom team as we share our creations using November's Stamp of the Month - New Year's Cheer!

If you came here from Kim's amazing blog, you're on the right path!  If you get lost along the way, come back here and go to the bottom of the page for the blog hop list.

Inspiration: This pin from Pinterest. The gray/white/pink color combo caught my eye, and I loved how a frame was used to ground the stamped images.

Technique: Sewing with silver thread to create the banner, using different variations of each color to give it some interest (Whisper and Slate gray, Raspberry and Blossom pink), glamming up the glasses with the Shimmer Brush, and die-cutting that lovely frame from Artbooking to add my own grounding element.

Fun Fact: I originally stamped bubbles above the champagne glasses, but that white space in the middle is apparently very important to making this work, because it was just too busy!

November's SOTM is only available until November 30th. As always, you can get this stamp set for only $5 with a $50 purchase at my website

Now it's time for you to keep moving on the hop!  Head on over to Sue's lovely blog and see her fantastic artwork!
